So a few people on my dorm room tour video asked me to do like a little like my opinion sort of thing on Texas State University. Just like. What I thought of the buildings and the people here and things like that. And originally since I posted that video back in August I had only been here for a little less than a month and so I had said that I would maybe do something like gone towards the end of the first semester towards the end of my time just being here. And so now that I’ve been here for a few months I got a whole school year basically I felt like I could maybe speak better on those things.
So I just like wrote some things down because. Like these are just my opinions and obviously this doesn’t reflect. Anybody else’s opinions. If that makes sense. So personally I think that the people here are really nice. A lot of the professors and students are both the professors really want you to pass the class like this semester I had a professor that continued to extend dates for people like due dates on assignments when like it was well past the date. He originally had said and it’s just because he really wanted you to pass the class.
Essentially I think all the professors early nice they’re all really knowledgeable and all every single one I’ve had will go out of their way to help you to learn and understand the course material that they’re teaching. With that I would say that most the buildings I’ve been in are really nice buildings. Some of them are older so you have to keep in mind. So personally I’m a business major I’m an accounting major so this semester especially I’ve been going to McCoy a lot and I really love that building. It’s just so nice and clean and I don’t know how old it is but it’s just really nice building OK is the library and that’s like a huge building and there there’s a lot that you can do in there way more than you think.
So it’s not just like a library and they have books but they also have private study rooms they have like just like floors of tables or you can just sit and study by yourself or do like groups to be with other people. They have like obviously been to books and records and things like God that you could check out or read there. Another cool thing that they have is they have like on the very bottom floor. So like when you first walk in you’re actually on the second floor and when you go down you’re on the first floor then and down there they have like I think some people even have classes down there I’m not really sure but there are like classrooms and then there’s also like a soundproof like audio video room if you’re an intake recording videos or you had a project or something a soundproof room truly cool.
Those things you do have to work like request ahead of time though and put your name on like a schedule and then another big thing. A lot of people ask about is like the rec center. Personally I’ve been going to the rec center a lot lately and I think it’s really nice it’s always clean. There’s a lot of equipment there that you can use and it does get busy ally especially after people go to their classes like around 3:00 to 5:00 and even like a little bit later it’s typically really busy but I go in the morning and it’s not busy at all.
So yeah you can keep that in mind. Another thing that people ask about a lot is like the food here and the like when you live on campus you have to order and pay for a meal plan and make sure I give her that they’re changing that. So I would just keep that in mind I think before you purchase one. But overall I think the food is like OK. If you get older there’s like two places where it’s like the cafeteria style food were you. It’s like a buffet and you can eat however much you want.
Typically I like that food is just decent not some I’ll say I’m not. And then there’s Chick fil A on campus. There’s some places there’s coffee places and almost every place you can get one of the meal trade options which is basically when you purchase like a meal plan and you can use like a meal swipe instead of the dollars that you would buy. And so actually corn helpful site where you’re not spending a whole bunch of money and you can just use the trade instead. But overall I get really tired of the food really fast and I think it’s probably like if you go to any campus at any school you just get tired of eating the same food if you live on campus.
But personally this semester I did bring my car down so I was able to go off campus and eat whenever I went home to. The dorm halls. A lot of people have asked me why I could do wormholes are and I some galas do have like a reputation. So to say so I Sterry HALL Some people call it scary scary because it’s apparently haunted tower Hall which is actually like right next door to the hall that I stand. People have said that the top floor of that is like haunted too or something like that.
So if you don’t want a bag or my Navy I do a little bit of. Research about that. Personally I stay in San Jacinto and if you guys like saw my previous video. It’s really nice. I have my own room and I share a bathroom with my roomie person and then we all share like a common area. Then there’s two other girls on the other side who both have their own rooms and shared bathroom as well. And so personally I think my dorm hall is really nice and it is one of the more expensive ones.
But I wouldn’t mind paying out for what you get and our bathrooms are actually clean like. Every other week not every week I think so I’m not asking you.
I see it’s like a whole. I really like this universe. I’m glad that I went here. I think it’s really pretty. And so yeah there are some things that some people might disagree on with me I guess but oh well it’s just my opinion. So then. Sam Marcus is a city as a whole.
If you’re not from San Marcos or like an area similar to it it might be a little bit of a change for me. I’m from my North North Texas so I kind of live near Dallas but not Dallas. So to me I Sam Marcus is kind of sketchy. You always hear about stuff going on. And to me it just kind of a little bit of a shock because it’s not like that in the city that I’m from or at least it’s not like reported to you like that I guess. Another thing is that everybody always hypes up to Park which is like where the river is and it’s like on campus but still can get like really busy especially on really nice days.
So I’d recommend like you don’t have to go to school obviously but some like really nice park areas that are close to campus but aren’t on campus is like that just San Marco city park and then Rio Vista Park. I love both of those. I’ve been there like many times. It’s just a lot more quiet I think. And it’s where I like more families go.
It seems like so sometimes it can get extremely busy there on the weekends because you know everybody’s off from work but overall like I really like those two places. Another thing I would say is like going you’re making your class schedule and things like that definitely take into account where the buildings are and how much time you have in between each class. Because the campus is huge. So if you have class on one side of campus and then 10 minutes later of course on the other side you might be really cutting it short.
So I would just definitely make sure you have fun time in between last semester. My schedule is super spread out throughout the day so I didn’t have to worry about that. But this semester I have some back to back classes so I definitely had to be wary at that because. You know you don’t want to be sprinting to your cause every single day. Just some basic college tips I’m definitely say like join organizations join clubs join into real sports because that’s how you’re gonna make friends. I know some people have asked me on my previous video if a lot of like upperclassmen stay in this storm specifically because they’ve heard that or something and therefore it’s hard to make friends.
There are over hosting that stay here obviously but you’re not just gonna make friends like people in the dorm hall and things like that. You have to go out and like get involved. Pretty much like the university. And if you don’t like then.
You’re probably not going to have the best time.
So that’s like one of the most important things I think about just college in general is that you just have to get involved with stuff. Another general college tip would be Don’t. Run out and buy your textbooks. OK. Don’t do it because you don’t need to buy them. Most of the time I would only probably buy a textbook unless you know that like you may use it again or maybe you only use it as reference because that’s like. Like I said I’m an accounting major so if I had to buy like an accounting textbook or something and I think hey I might use that as reference in the future.
Then maybe think about buying it if it’s not like it outrageously expensive but a lot of people to get their tax textbooks to use Chegg and I can link in the description box some below. And basically you can either buy or rent your textbooks from there. But another cool thing is you can actually sell your textbooks to them. So if you have bought a textbook and you’re like I have no use for this anymore you can get it appraised write them and they’ll tell you how much they’ll give you for it even if it’s just like five dollars.
That’s better than keeping a textbook that you’re never going to use. So and even with that I don’t go and read every textbook that you think you might need a lot of professors will say that the textbooks are mandatory and that you’re going to have to read them but in reality like you probably won’t like I have two textbooks that I rented this semester and I’ve not once used them. Sorry Mom and Dad. It’s just true. You don’t need the textbook because they the professors will post everything online anyways. And so that’s another thing is that if you’ve heard about tracks here at Texas State that’s actually getting replaced and I don’t know right now they’re going to replace it too because they’ve not announced it yet.
I think they’re announcing after the semesters come to an end. I really hope it’s campus personally because I used that in high school and I did do credit. So you’re so lucky you don’t have to ever use tracks because tracks is horrible. But thankfully they’re replacing it. So that’s kind of all I can think about right now for like a little Texas state opinions and reviews video. I just thought I would like sit down and talk about it a little bit since it is the end of the semester and a lot of you seniors in college are making or sorry seniors in high school are making college decisions and such.
So I just thought it would be kind of helpful if maybe you’re looking into Texas a state just to hear an opinion or something from someone who’s been here for you know a year. So now I’m just going to start studying for my finals and we’ll see what happens.
